Thorbjørn Jagland Warns Europe Against ECHR Defiance On Iraqi Returns

Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland has warned Council of Europe member states preparing to return Iraqi citizens to Iraq not to violate a European Court of Human Rights decision.

“The Court has clearly asked Sweden, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom not to proceed with forced return of Iraqis in view of the recent deterioration of the security situation there,” he declared on 16 November. “All Council of Europe member states must respect the decisions of the Court.”

The European Court of Human Rights has received some 400 applications over the last week against Sweden by Iraqis asking not to be deported to Iraq.

  1. I can't understand why human rights leaders continue to esteem the leaders of the most fascist country in the history of either fascism, or countries, with their support, as Thorbjørn Jagland's lecture at Harvard's Weatherhead series today does. Political prisoners such as Leonard Peltier and Mumia Abu Jamal continue to be wrongly imprisoned, and the U.S. military dictatorship has imposed widespread civil death vis-a-vis PSYOP and electronic torture of its dissidents - but world leaders continue to bow to the will of its fascist corporations, such as Harvard, that reap huge benefits from the military industry. Human rights is a joke.
