Constitutional experts from the Council of Europe will visit Ukraine next week for more talks with the country’s authorities.
The Venice Commission’s team will examine the consequences of a decision by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine which declared unconstitutional the Law on Amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine adopted on 8 December 2004 .
The Court required that laws subsequently adopted be brought into line with the 1996 Constitution.
The Venice Commission wants to obtain more information on this decision and and on the future constitutional developments in the country during its two-days of meetings with Ukrainian authorities which begin on 29 November.
The Venice Commission’s team will hold talks with the Speaker of the Parliament, representatives of the Presidential Administration, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Constitutional Court, with the Head of the National Commission for Strengthening Democracy and representatives of the opposition.
A press conference will be held at the premises of the news agency “Ukrinform” at 12h00 on Tuesday 30 November.
