A new report on Croatia shows ethnically-motivated incidents against Serbs and Roma "continue to be a serious problem” despite improvements in the protection offered to national minorities.
The report, published today by the Council of Europe’s Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, also highlights the “plague” of racism and anti-Semitism at Croatian football stadiums.
The authors of the report declared that the “functioning of the councils of national minorities is unsatisfactory in many self-government units,” and calls for “their legal provisions and administrative practice should be revised to improve their representativity, funding and cooperation with local authorities."
